Valentine’s Day History Primer

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!

How it All Got Started

How did this heart-filled, card-sending, candy-giving holiday begin? The exact details of its origins are not clear, but the basis behind Valentine’s Day stems from a priest named Valentine who lived during the reign of Roman emperor Claudius II, also known as “Claudius the Cruel.” Read the rest of this entry »

Private Bradley Manning VS Amerika’s Collateral Murder

THE PERILS OF HILLARY As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton finds herself dealing with foreign upheaval not seen since the fall of the Soviet Union

Hillary told staff that she could not fathom how an army private, Bradley Manning, with psychological problems and a drag-queen boyfriend could single-handedly cause the United States unprecedented embarrassment just by labeling massive downloads as Lady Gaga songs.

US Army Private Bradley Manning

On July 6, 2010, Private Bradley Manning, a 22 year old intelligence analyst with the United States Army in Baghdad, was charged with disclosing this video (after allegedly speaking to an unfaithful journalist). The whistle-blower behind the Pentagon Papers, Daniel Ellsberg, has called Mr. Manning a ‘hero’. He is currently imprisoned in Kuwait. The Apache crew and those behind the cover up depicted in the video have yet to be charged.

2011 | Year of the Killer Drones

Pakistan has been publicly critical of American Air Force drone attacks

Armed U.S. Death Drones were over Pakistan, killing people on the ground, almost as soon as the new year began. In the first two weeks of 2011 five drones strikes were recorded in Pakistan.

Though Islamabad has upped its public protests against these attacks, the skies above Pakistan will be dark with drones this year.

American air force “predator” and “reaper” Death Drones murdering innocent civilians

Unlike the Predator and Reaper drones which are remotely operated, the UCAS is designed from the ground up to be autonomous.

Dunno just how clued-in you are to these devices; essentially they are simply unmanned american aircraft carrying a cheap explosive designed to cause as much damage as possible, at the lowest dollar cost, in a most cowardly way.

Primer | the Israeli settlements

Cartoonist: 'Abdullah Darqawi

Cartoonist: 'Abdullah Darqawi Source: Al-Dustour (Jordan)

As of May 2009, there were 280,000 Israelis living in 121 settlements in the West Bank, and 190,000 in East Jerusalem. Settlements range in their character from farming communities to suburbs to frontier villages, and, in the case of East Jerusalem, city neighborhoods.

The United Nations and other major international bodies consider the settlements a violation of international law, though this is disputed by Israel and some legal scholars.

Once more, reality proves stranger than fiction as ‘Barracks’ Obama and his bullshit election promises to “stop the war” have come up empty.

String his line of BULLSHIT to the relatives of the dead and see what response you get. WARM and FUZZY is NOT America’s reputation on this planet!

KILLERS. THAT’S what America means to dozens of countries around the world.

Field-Marshal Keitel signing the ratified surrender terms for the German military

Field-Marshal Keitel signing the ratified surrender terms for the German military

In the Russian Federation and some former USSR countries, Victory Day marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union and some post-Soviet states).

This surrender document was signed late in the evening on May 8, 1945 (May 9 by Moscow Time), following the original capitulation Germany agreed earlier to the joint Allied forces on the Western Front. The Soviet government announced the victory early on May 9 after the signing ceremony in Berlin. However, only since 1965 the Victory Day has been a holiday.

SONDAY: A Nation Rocked to Sleep by Carly Sheehan

cindy-sheehan-peace

I started this essay with a poem from Kipling, and I want to end it with a poem my daughter wrote that began my activism after her brother was killed, and is just as timely today as it was in April 2004:

Cindy Sheehan is an American anti-war activist whose son, Casey, was killed in the Iraq War on April 4, 2004. She attracted national and international media attention in August 2005 for her extended anti-war protest at a makeshift camp outside President George W. Bush’s Texas ranch — a stand which drew both passionate support and angry criticism.
